Week 36
Kids weekend
Missing Zoey
Business Audit - Care Farm
Boat repairs
Skelters
A pretty slow week, getting used to Life Without Zoey and my volunteer helper had a week off!
(So I didn't have to work so hard - helping him!).
We tidied a lot of things up in preparation for the 4 yearly Audit.
I focus on the physical things like tools, electrics, flammable liquids, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers...the workshops were all tidy! (for a change).
Janny and our younger personnel focussed on the "paperwork" which is all having to be computerised now - mostly to conform to Privacy legislation.
The latter turned out to be the only question mark for the Audit, but we have 4 months to get all our old stuff scanned and into the secure site that we now use (and pay for!!). A lot of it can be disposed of - we took a load to be "officially" shredded at the Staples shop - we even had to sign for that!
My Business Computer ended up "out the back" for the scanning and document storage - so I may yet have to get another one - as I try to keep the banking and business separate.
We have a black mat in the hallway - we both had moments when we realised that it wasn't Zoey - that's where she used to sleep.
The Chimney Sweep (er) came this week - He has 3 to do at our place - needless to say that he is very busy at this time of the year. A pretty good business. We think we will arrange for ours to be done in July in future.
So, being September we will be lighting the fire soon enough.
Boating
But, we still have a bit of boating to do...in fact, it will probably be more enjoyable than the oppressive heat ( I really do try to never complain about the heat - but it certainly is noticably different over the last few years).
I sorted out the loose battery cable and replaced the urine pump (but I think that I will try to find a better solution for the pump). So, we're right to go again - when Janny organises some time off.(It was going to be this week but Janny has to go to a First Aid (re) Accreditation Course with the the personnel - part of our Audit).
Kids Weekend
Janny has organised a new timetable for the kids. They now arrive at 1900hrs instead of 1700hrs. She thought of this partly in response to the Corona virus but then realised that it will make life a lot easier for us all!
Mainly, we don't have to cook first thing when the kids arrive - sometimes, I would do it to help out, otherwise one of the personnel is busy cooking instead of getting the kids settled.
With the new arrangement, everything seems to be going much easier, with more attention for the kids when they arrive.
Some of our skelters are 12 years old - and second hand when we got them! They have not had much work done on them over the years. A new tyre here and there, chains tightened, a bit of WD40. May of the wheels have tubeless tyres - and almost all of them were leaking! The kids would pump them up on the weekend and usually keep them going for a day or two.
So, we finally got around to do some serious servicing. A couple of our Day Work clients made a rack to put them on and Janny arranged for some new wheels and inner tubes.
One of our new kids seems quite handy in the workshop so he and I spent most of Saturday getting started on the repairs. The tubeless tyres are quite a bugger to get off!...
