Week 31 in Wijnjewoude

Week 31 in Wijnjewoude

Not much out of the ordinary this week, although that seems a strange thing to say, as I find most days to be special, when I consider what we are doing.

350 Christmas gifts

A couple of the clients are doing most of the work, although some small things get shared around... this is the end result

Janny bought the domes from the Action shop (cheap). The wooden figures were ordered on line from China - about 1200 in total - and all were delivered in 11 days! We had to pay import duty because of the total value.

Lucas does most of the painting...

Our new client has been weighing the modelling clay.

Peter drills the holes and cuts the legs of the cribs.

Babies in sackcloth...

The kids have their own lockers

Declaration of good behaviour

We're having our Audit in September (occurs every 4 years). Mostly paperwork, but also safety - tools, electricity, playground equipment, etc.

Everyone who works here, including our volunteer, has to to have " A Declaration of Good Behaviour (Character)". This is arranged through the local Government offices - mostly a check of any offences, I think. It is all done on line using a personal digital code (DigID).
This would also be required if we had a regular gardener, for example. ie anyone who comes to the premises regularly and therefore might come in contact with the kids.

I found a nice bit of armchair sailing...

This a staverse jol - home made. I'm guessing that the writer is about the same age as me - and he has a nice style of writing - it's in Dutch but can be easily translated into English. I think I am preferring the Dutch, but some words stump me now and then.
He does a lot of sailing in France and quite a lot of it single-handed. A source of inspiration, indeed!

New mooring in Wijnjewoude

The new mooring has been in use from last year, but the new facilities have not yet been fully open due to the Carona Virus - nobody has really bothered.

As we were the first boat to actually stop and use it...

...I was pleased to be able to find some old photos - of this spot and a bit further along in "our' local canal. (Photos from Wijnjewoude.net - mostly from Durk - a cattle breeder who lives just up the road from our place).

The first was a photo celebrating 60 years of the "Dairy Factory" - so it was built in 1902.
Photo from 1963 (The front section near the VW remains as a house, the rest has been demolished (2019)).
Photo from 1907

If I understand it correctly, the new bridge came in 1986. The sign in this photo asks for f1,50 for bruggeld (bridge money to get it opened).

This was a cycling "event" ...(sometimes the dates in the text don't match - bound to happen with peoples' recollections, I guess).

There used to be a "tram" running from Gorredijk to Assen...some physical remains are still to be found and also some place names. The station building in Oosterwolde is now a restaurant.

I had previously thought that it was closed after WWII, but the last "tram" (it looks more like a goods train) went through in 1962. The bridge is still called the "trambrug". The bridgekeeper's house is still there.

An older photo from 1920

and from 1949...

and another "event" celebrating  the opening of the new trambrug (no date)

 Whilst I'm on old photos...

Someone found this one - of our road in 1900! With the oak trees already looking 30 or 40 years old...maybe the Local Govt. offices know when they were planted?

Nobody has come forward with any ideas as to who the kids might be...

The chook "hotel"

The chooks have "blood lice" - it's a chook thing - so we moved them out of the chookshed for a couple of weeks

Sunday Boating Heerenveen to Wijnjewoude (again!)

With Janny's sister Greethilda and brother-in-law Albert
