A weekend away

Week 25

A Weekend Away...

Although we are working again, with things getting back into the old routine.

Work continues on the apartment...

...but with the extremely humid weather a floor that we laid in another apartment before Christmas began to "bubble" in the middle.

We all know that there has to be a "gap" left around the perimeter of the laminaat flooring!! - but obviously, we didn't leave enough! The floor in Apartment # 3 raised in the middle as it expanded enough to push on the outside walls -so that it lifted about 20 cms high in the middle! We had to take about half the floor out - luckily we had 6 sheets left over, so we could replace those that were damaged.
I've done heaps of these floors over the years, but never one in Australia - so I don't know if they would have the same problem with the wood "growing" in humid weather?
I quite literally cut 35mm from one end (the width of the bracket on my circular saw) and another cm off the width once we lifted it out. It took 3 of us a whole day to repair it. (I'm glad my helpers are back!).

Meanwhile, I'm up to the kitchen in Apartment # 1

Insulation on the outside wall...

Doors off for painting...

Spot the deer?

Boeke didn't, either...

We had a free weekend (which normally would have been The Village Fair if not for the Carona Virus).

So we packed up, including more food than we needed considering that we are dieting again!

We're still not convinced that Boeke likes the boat all that much, but he did enjoy sitting on the foredeck with Janny.

We moored at one of our "regular" spots, just 3 hours from Heerenveen.

A rather up-market place, Boornzwaag. Made with boating mind! We were moored just opposite the restaurant Bista Lago (now renamed to "Helder").
As you can see from all the water, just about every house has it's own mooring in the backyard or front and sometimes both!
The "Put van Nederhorst" is a pit where sand for roadmaking was extracted - about 40 metres deep.
Some of the houses are getting on a bit - many are being upgraded or pulled down completely to put up some fairly impressive new houses.

One that impressed was an old sailing school that has been rebuilt into a house - on the waters edge with plenty of mooring space.(about where the Paviljoen Hepkema is indicated - that may well be the spot - as nothing else is open there).

Friday afternoon, not many boats. (It did get much busier into the weekend).

The former sailing school...

We did lots of walking, including walking the dog...(he just sits down if he doesn't want to walk further).
And Janny continued her running program...

Langwaar, about 2 kms away

This windmill can be rented for a weekend - sleeping 8 people.

Photos from the trip back to Heerenveen

"With room for a boat"...

And one for sale...@€600k

Agent's photo...

Nearly back at Heerenveen, we saw the railway bridge open

And, as I was rummaging through some old photos last week, I found some more.

We are heading into a fairly warm week and the last two summers have been unusually warm (Climate Change??).

So, just to remind me of what the weather is really like over here...(2009 - I think we had MINUS 22 C that year - and freezing pipes).
